A devastating satire on the effects of mass production on the lives of factory workers. Shows Charlie as a factory worker, jailbird, night watchman, and a singing waiter. Primarily a silent film with music and sound effects, but voices emanate from TV sets and radios.
Special features include: documentary: "Chaplin today, modern times" by Philippe Truffault; introduction by David Robinson; karaoke version of Chaplin's nonsense song; theme song "Smile", performed by Liberace; government sponsored educational film "Behind the scenes in the Machine Age" (1931); Ford's promotional musical film "Symphony in F" (1940); Cuban documentary "Por primera vez" or "For the first time" (1967) on peasants watching Modern times, their first movie; photogallery, poster gallery, theatrical trailers, and deleted scenes.
